5.  The Lost Boys  (1987)

thelostboysThis film is pretty much as 80's as they get, but it in a good way, it's not something you want to forget about.   If you grew up in the 80's then you were obsessed with this film and how cool these characters were.  'The Lost Boys' is an amazing vampire flick, that will always be a classic that captured so much of the culture of it's time.  The soundtrack is great, the acting is great, and it is a well made film.  On a side note, you will never look at chinese food the same way again.  This is the stand alone vampire flick of the 80's.

4.  Re-Animator  (1985)

reanimatorWho doesn't love a film written by a guy named H.P. Lovecraft? Here is a movie that featured some of the most amazing special effects, and a good story to actually follow. While shooting they went through 25 gallons of fake blood, I don't think it gets any better than that.  The story follows a crazy medical student who discovers a formula to bring things back from the dead.  As expected, and to our enjoyment, things get a little out of control. This 80's flick is a very enjoyable watch, over and over again.

3.  Night of the Creeps  (1986)

Ok here is a film that runs the full gambit, its a zombie film that is a slasher film, with some aliens thrown in the mix, all taking place at an 80's frat party.  If you were to take every element that makes up the 80's and made a horror/comedy out of it, then you would just end up with 'Night of the Creeps'. It is so much fun to watch, and is a huge 80's cult classic that will live on forever. Here is a little fun fact, all of the last names of the main characters are all last names of famous horror and sci-fi directors.

2.  Hellraiser  (1987)

hellraiser

Talk about crazy psychological movies that blow your mind and take horror to places it has never been.  Wow Clive Barker's directing debut was a good one to say the least.  I would put this film in my top 5 simply because they created a character as cool as Pinhead.  To sum up the plot; a couple moves to a house, and finds the husband's creature of a half brother, who was the wife's ex-lover, living in a room.  The man lost his physical body to the Cenobites, and his existence is brought back by a drop of blood, now the woman lures men back to the room, as sacrifices, so his body can be completed. Enough said.....great movie.

1.  A Nightmare on Elm Street  (1984)

nightmare on elm street freddy_thumbFor me this is the quintessential horror movie of the 80's.  In my opinion it is the best character horror of them all, and Robert Englund is the reason for all of it.  All the sudden the killers aren't giant mutes walking around killing, this one has a personality. The concept of being killed in your dreams is the best aspect of the whole series.  It takes an action that everyone performs, sleeping, and turns it into the most disturbing thing possible. This film and the entire 'Nightmare' series is beyond epic, and remember "Don't fall asleep or you'll wake up dead".
